100th Post and a South Dakota-Themed Giveaway!

I’m sitting here drinkingย  iced coffee (now that I make it right), and I’m thinking what on earth should I write on today?

Oh, who am I fooling. Not a soul, that’s who. I know what I am going to write about because it’s been in my head for three days. I really really really like blogging and really really really really appreciate all the people I have met through this and I realllllyyyy fancy some iced coffee while blogging and conversating.

As you can see by the title, this is the 100th published post. And since this gal rarely passes on a celebration, I’ve pondered what I could do to make this a memorable, firework of a post.

First though, I want to show you something that has given me an extra kick in my step:

South Dakota baby

Oops, those belong to my friend's baby. She pulls of the cankled look well.

Here it is:

South Dakota cd

My Dolly CD that I won on Twitter came this week!

I wrote a few months back on how I won Dolly’s new “Better Day” album. I’ve been checking my mailbox regularly, only to walk away saying “oh shucks”. Well, not this week!

A South Dakota Giveaway

In honor of The Simple Life of a Country Man’s Wife’s 100th post, I wanna do something fun. Now mind you, I live in the middle of nowhere; therefore I had to look around this place to find a few things. So, here goes:

  1. One state-of-the-art deer horn, found by Country Man himself. Did you know people successfully sell horns on eBay? It’s true.
  2. A rattler. From a rattlesnake. Compliments of the other half.
  3. Three of my favorite recipes. I originally wrote five but could only think of three.
  4. A few ears of garden popcorn when it comes in late August. I think that’s legal.
  5. An 8×10 photo of one the following photos:

South Dakota sky
South Dakota riverhills

South Dakota tree
All you gotta do is speak your peace below, and on July 10th I will draw a name and announce the winner, who will then choose from the five options above. Sharing with friends will give you another name in the hat as well.

This is all in good fun and I sure hope to hear from you! Boy I love giveaways.

Follow on Twitter if you’d like and receive an extra chance to win.

  1. Oh, how fun! I’ve never offered a giveaway on my blog, so you’re ahead of me.
Now, I hope we don’t have to choose which photo right now – I’ll have to think on that awhile!

  2. Since I moved out into the sticks, the joy of checking the mail box has been taken away. I now have to go down to town to check the post office box which is no way near as much fun. It has turned into a chore. And I do love the tree picture.

  3. A South Dakota style giveaway! You are so clever and you may have just started a new trend. I wonder what I could giveaway from Virginia. Perhaps one of my many treasures found in the Shenandoah River? A vintage tin camping mug? A bear trap? Or the gold wedding band? So many choices! Congrats on your 100th post!

  4. Your blog is inspiring! A friend shared it with me a few months back and I am hooked. I love your photos and storys. Keep up the great work!

  5. AH I so wanted the baby picture to be real!!

This is such a fun giveaway because it would be just like getting a thoughtful present in the mail! And believe me, I’m pretty sure my husband would soon start pretending that he had been the one to get us the horn and the rattle ๐Ÿ˜‰ I would love to win one of your beautiful photos. In the meantime, as always, I’m enjoying your blog!!

  6. This may be the most creative giveaway I’ve ever seen. Love it! Your photos are beautiful and my son would be in complete delight if I gave him a rattle from a snake. How fun.

    Congrats on your 100th post!

  8. This is amazing! Just re-blogged on my blog. Thanks for making me always remember how much I love living in the country, even though I spend much of my time on a plane or trapped in my home office. At least my children bring me rocks every day at lunch as sort of a peace offering for ‘Mommy having to do all the real work’ and allowing them to have such a fabulous life outside with Daddy ๐Ÿ™‚

  9. Hello,

I have been following this blog for a while now, and I must admit that the beautiful images of the farms and animals and the work on the farm and all has seriously captured my imagination. Thank you so much for sharing this world of your’s with everyone else.

And congratulations on the 100th post!

  10. I don’t know what I would choose! Well, maybe not the rattler (althought I am sure some crazy person in my family would love to have it). And you know how much I love your pictures, I am looking for a fall photo to complete the set for my daughter’s apartment who lives in the city but is a true country girl.
Thanks for the chance of a giveaway. And thanks for always commenting on my blog.

  11. What a great idea to celebrate your 100th post – as if 100 gifts of sharing the life and times of the Country Man’s Wife with all of us wasn’t enough. Congratulations on that and we’ll start looking for Post #200… and another South Dakota Giveaway, of course!

My Farm Girl absolutely loves popcorn – especially with a good movie. She will even share it with me and the Quad Squad if we beg really nicely… ;). So when you draw my name outta that hat, just be planning on stuffing a few ears of that South Dakota popping corn in a box bound for Oklahoma! And, if I may, a bonus gift of your iced coffee recipe for yours truly. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  12. I am inspired my the lone tree. From a decorator’s prospective I like things in threes. I like the dark brown/black tree silhouetted in the middle of the honey colored grass or wheat, against the blue sky with a few white (cloud) accents. These are great colors for decor showing us, once again, that God (The Creator) has an eye for color. Just imagine a living room designed with these colors. Also the lone tree speaks strength to me.

  13. Congrats on your 100th post! Great idea for a giveaway – here’s hoping I’m the lucky winner.

I very much enjoy your posts, and look forward to the next 100!

  14. What a great idea. Just posted my 155 yesterday – so I think I will save your idea for 200. And I would love one of the photos pleeeeease.
Even if I don’t win I just love your blog. Your life is totally different from mine living in an inner city suburb. But I have proven to all that I am a city gal but love to hear of others’ lives in the country.

  15. You are such a dedicated and passionate blogger — congrats on getting to 100 posts!! I’m in and SUPER hoping that I get some of your South Dakota popcorn, legal or otherwise!!
(and I can’t wait til you get your own pair of baby cankles!)

  17. I must say I laughed out loud when I read your prizes – then I caught myself thinking: I wonder if my husband would notice if his wood ducks went missing off of the wall. I would love to giveaway some of the Minnesota wildlife plastered on our walls! With that being said – I’d have to choose a photo or a recipe over the animal paraphernalia (which is fine because it’s the beautiful photos that keep bringing me back:)

  18. I just found your blog and I think it’s wonderful. Though I live in the city now, we lived in the country for many years. I really really miss it. Enjoy every moment of it, and I will visit again to get my country fix!

  19. WOOT!! I’m just in the nick of time! (We’ve been on vacation the past 2 wks — so glad I didn’t miss my chance!)

I would love to win any of the above – your choice. Thanks so much for the giveaway!
